THE LITTLE THINGS THAT COUNT

"Thank you. This next song is about men and women,
les hommes et les femmes. Amor, sex, c'est très compliqué,
c'est très difficile. So it goes like this ... I was in my mother's
Cadillac and I was heading for a diner date with a buddy of mine, and
I got lost. So I pulled over to call and tell him I was gonna be an
hour late. And it was just factories except for one little bar. I parked
the Cadillac. I go into the bar. I only have twenty bucks. I gotta make
a phone call. I ask the bartender for change. He says : " We don't
have any change around here ". So I said : " You mean you
don't give any change like the whole neighbourhood got together and
said, you know, fuck you, we ain't giving any change anymore you know
". So ... but there's a waitress watching. She comes up. She goes
like this. She gives me a quarter. I put it in the phone. I dial. It's
a fifty cent call. I come back and say : " Gee, this call cost
fifty cents ! ". She says : " That's too bad, isn't it ? ".
And then she says : " But ... If you give me another quarter ...
". No, wait a minute, she says : " If you give me a ride home,
I'll give you another quarter ". So, the song takes over from here
... This is unrecorded ... 'cause I'd be divorced if I recorded the
song ! I made all this shit up anyway !" >>> Paroles et traduction de The little things that count Cirkus, Stockholm (Suède), (13 mars 1996) "Thank you. Allright, I've got a question for you ! Got
a song coming up here ... gonna do a song about sex or a song about
TV commercials ... What do you think ? [yeah!] Allright, let's take
a little vote here : song about sex ? Let's hear it [Yeah !] ... Allright,
song about TV commercials, Let's hear it [Yeah !] ...That's good ...
see, in the United States, we think Swedish is ... Sweden is the home
of wild and inhibited sex. You proven that ! Sex ? [Yeah !] TV commercials
? [Yeah !] ... Thank you, gimme the other guitar ... It's good to know
there's some things you can count on in this world, god damn ... allright
? allright ... So ... I'm in my mother's Cadillac, right, and I'm ...
I'm in a town that I can't mention, on a freeway that can't be named
... and I'm going to a buddy of mine's nice house for dinner, he ...
and I'm gonna be late 'cause I'm stuck in traffic, so I have to pull
off the freeway and practice a new-found maturity by calling him on
the phone and telling him I'm gonna be late. I pull off but I'm in an
industrial area, there doesn't seem to be any ... there's no ...nothing
... there's no houses or apartments ... it seems just endless streets
of factories, but then in a little corner I see a little bar. I park
the Cadillac. I go in the bar. I say : " Where's the pay phone
? ". They pointed me in the back, but I go in my pocket and I only
got 20 bucks. So, I go to the bartender and I say : " Gee, I gotta
use the phone, do you have change for a 20 ? ". And he says : "
We don't give any change around here ". So I say : " Well,
you ... you mean like you don't know nobody in the bar gives change,
you mean, like the whole neighbourhood has gotten together somehow and
said " fuck'em, no more change ". Right, so, huh ... watching,
there's a waitress watching this go down and she hasn't said anything,
she just comes up to me and goes like this, and in between her fingers
she holds up a quarter. I take the quarter, I say thank you, I go to
the pay phone, I put the money in. But it seems I'm just a little bit
out of the area code, and it's a 50 cent call. So, I ... I ... I turn
to her and I said : " Gee, it's a 50 cent phone call ! ".
And she just says : " Well, that's too bad ", you know. But,
she says : " Gee, I give you another quarter if you give me a ride
home ". That's the story ... you ... haven't heard this song yet
. .. It might be a piece of shit ... you don't know ..." >>> Paroles et traduction de The little things that count
